Communication – 99 ways to speak and be heard!

Today I got a nice little nugget in my inbox, and thought – yes! This definitely should be shared.

How many times have you spoken, and realized that what was heard, was not at all what you said? Communication is part art and part science and must be practiced. There are four main goals: to inform, to request, to persuade, and to build relationships.

If we don’t master the art of communication, we may waste our time doing pointless activities that amount to, well, pointless activity.

For example: is your social networking NOT working? Has your sphere of influence and reach expanded? Chances are you are not building the type of relationships that benefit from your influence. Perhaps you are talking to the wrong people. So, what can do?

Take a look at this list and identify one or two items that fit your objectives for communicating (informing, requesting, influencing, or building relationships). Try them right away and be sure to pop back on this page to share your comments and stories. I want to hear them!

Blackberry Blues – 10 Tips and Tricks

Has your Blackberry suddenly gone wacky? Have your recently lost valuable data?

If not, great. Here’s the low down on preventing information overload on Blackberry:

Top 10 tips of the month:
1) Make it your standard to maintain at least 14,000,000 bytes of free space!
2) Regularly check your system and remove any unused programs – they are just wasting space.
3) Use the “delete prior” feature, which keeps your messages on your desktop, but not clogging up your in-box.
4) Be sure to turn on the feature “Delete on prompts” (especially if using IMAP).
5) Clear history for internet use.
6) Clear cache operations.
7) Save music and audio books to the memory card and NOT the phone.
8) Make sure your photos taken with the camera phone are stored on your data card and NOT the phone.
9) At least once a week, connect your device to your laptop and back up your data.
10) Finally, re boot for your changes to take affect.

The Virtual Wire – Two New VA Bloggers Added!

There’s two new kids on the block! and who likes being the new kid on the block anyway? No one ever really does, unless you receive the warmest welcome there ever could be. That is exactly the way The Virtual Wire’s team have embraced me.

I introduced myself to The Virtual Wire’s (TVW) community, and for those who have followed me to this blog, thank you. I feel really privileged to be one of the newest VA bloggers added to TVW, and hope that you’ll continue to read in both places. For those of you who haven’t heard of TVW, please read my first post.

Starting October 1st, and every Saturday thereafter, I’ll be blogging thematically on TVW (unless, something more compelling strikes me and I just have to tell you about it). October will be dedicated to the art of entrepreneurial thinking, or should I say the “lost art”. It would be great to hear from you as we explore this topic. There will be resources, advice (like we need more of that) and stories too. To kick this off, see where my motivation began (blog entry: Entrepreneurship – principles that recapture the lost art…). If you respond to the call to action, please tell me about it. We all want to hear from you!!

We are also graced with the talent and expertise of Sydni Craig-Hart of Craig-Hart Consulting, and EAtoVA. I could not be in better company, and neither will you. Sydni will be blogging on TVW on Wednesdays, and I know you’ll be informed and enlightened by her perspective. She rocks!

Thank you to the TVW team for having me!

Virtually yours:)
